Hi, everyone, and welcome to yet another chapter of my Road Trip to Cancer City!!
Okay, so I need to work on my titles! Anyway, since last week, I visited an oncologist, who wasn’t quite as helpful as I’d hoped but who did clarify a couple of points. Then I went back to my surgeon, this time armed with Mr. 50by60 at my side, which helped a lot as he asked questions I wasn’t sure about.
The gist of it is, while the surgeon explained why he thinks the mastectomy would be a better choice, he said the lumpectomy (partial mastectomy) is also still a viable option, although it would take off a lot more of my breast than I might realize, when all is said and done. Still, I can’t help thinking half a breast, like half a wing, is better than none, and might at least provide me with some well-needed balance, since, you know, I’m kinda well endowed!
So the plan is for us to just relax, mull it all over, and enjoy our long Thanksgiving holiday here at home for a change while deciding. Usually we go to Phoenix to visit my parents, but this year it’s just not gonna happen — sorry!!
But I’m hopeful that we might be able to visit before Easter, if not Orthodox Christmas!!
Oh, and one bright spot yesterday was that we got to chat with Dr. Steven York (Hi, Doctor York!). Who’s he, you ask? Well, he’s a doctor.
He also used to do a weekend talk show at KFI-AM 640, back in the previous century, when yours truly just happened to be working there as a screener!
So the first time I visited my surgeon, I took it as a good omen that his office was right across the hall from Dr. York! Isn’t there an old saying that coincidence is just another name for God?
No offense, Your Honour! Anyway, I do need to remind myself as I take this unexpected (and very involuntary!) “road trip,” that there’s a light at the end of every tunnel (and/or dog)!
And I do intend to try to keep a positive outlook, even though there are some not-so-fun times ahead. Sooner or later, spring will spring again and things will look brighter, right?
So there you go, you’ve got my latest update, you’ve heard about my exciting past, and you know about as much as I do about the future, which we all access one day at a time anyway!

(Oh and I’d be remiss if I didn’t also give a big shout-out to two of my nieces who reached out to me this week — hey Rachel and Kate! You’re both making me proud to be an auntie!)
