It’s all behind me now!

Hey, everyone! Yes, that’s right, my colonoscopy and all the associated prep has passed through my system and now I can relax for another 10 years till the next one! Although I’d like to believe they’ll come up with something a little more, shall we say, dignified by then? Or at least less invasive!

But the good news is, according to the official report I just received today, no polyps or problems found, other than what the doc describes as “mild chronic gastritis.” Which kinda surprised me, as I haven’t noticed any symptoms of gastritis, chronic or otherwise! And just FYI, according to some info I just found online, the symptoms of gastritis are:

  1. Burning pain in the stomach.
  2. Nausea and retching.
  3. Vomiting.
  4. Bloating or feeling full.
  5. Belching.
  6. Heartburn.
  7. Changes in appetite.
  8. Unexplained weight loss.

Okay, well, no issues with #1-4. I do occasionally belch, or burp, as we say in polite society!

No to 6 and 8, but 7, well, you know what? Ever since I did the colonoscopy prep, my taste in coffee has completely changed! Instead of loading it with all sorts of rich, calorific coffee creamers,

I’m consuming it totally black, with just enough sugar to take the edge off. And I’m lovin’ it!

Also, I’m totally off the three or four bottles of Diet Coke I had been consuming daily, and now am just having one really good, high quality, sugary soda per day!

So in that sense, yes, to #7, but that would seem to be a good thing, not a gastritis issue. Oh, and also, I’ve suddenly developed a taste for Stephen King’s “Dark Tower” series, which I was never able to get into before, but all of a sudden, the day before the colonoscopy, I started reading volume 1 (“The Gunslinger”) and now I’m halfway through volume 4 (“Wizard and Glass”)!

So who knows? Maybe colonoscopies can clear away all sorts of blockages, mental as well as physical, huh?

Let’s move on, shall we? Another neat thing that’s happened since last week is that, as I mentioned in previous posts, I’m trying out that “running without a treadmill” thing recommended by Bob and Brad.

Now, notice, this is a little different than the video I posted earlier, showing Bob (or is it Brad?) with an entire band looped around the waist and fastened to the anchor from behind. But I like this version better, because to me it feels like you’re much more in control in that you can drop the handles at any time and be free.

One thing I DON’T do, though, is use those ankle bands. I mean, I don’t know about you, but as soon as I saw those, I said, “Nope nope NOPE!”

I could just picture myself tripping all over those! So I decided to just go with the upper band, looped through a door anchor, with the handy-dandy handles. And it works great! This morning I did a timed 30 minute workout, mostly running in place using the band, but also letting go a couple of times and jogging from the shed to the house and back, just to break up the routine. Oh, and just FYI, you can’t see it in this pic, but inside the anchor is securely looped around the doorknob, to make doubly sure it won’t come loose while you’re leaning into it. I really enjoyed using it, and definitely will be adding this to my regular workout routine!

So that’s it, my very long and tedious blog post, but at least I got it done before vakay! That’s right, next week Mr. 50by60 and I will be visiting my family in beautiful Phoenix, and I know you know how much I’m looking forward to that! So till I return, hope you enjoy all your Christmas prep!
